The new Beco Butterfly design is released at the '08 new year, at the retirement of the 4th generation style. From the outside, it appears as the regular Beco carrier, the familiar "4th generation" we have always sold, still made with designer fabrics. But on the inside, there are many useful innovations. The most drastic is a built-in infant insert, which buckles baby safely into the carrier even before the adult puts it on. This makes it easy for an adult to put a little baby for a ride on the front or the back without assistance, just like putting on a backpack, and importantly, there is no possibility that a baby could ever come out, even if the waistband is unbuckled. With the integrated infant insert, the baby's leg support is sized appropriately, not too wide or narrow for her comfort, and because baby is positioned up higher than the normal carrier,
it is ergonomically superior for the adult's back comfort. When your baby outgrows the built-in infant insert, that part of the fabric lays flatso they sit in a larger area for years to come- most parents use their Beco well into age 2 or 3, and it is safety tested up to 55 pounds.
Instructions are included on DVD. The butterfly can do a front carry or back carry, but not a hip carry, and yes, discreet hands-free nursing is possible in this carrier. There is a detachable sleeping hood and a "stay put strap" for rolling it up. The Butterfly was designed to adjust easily for people who are especially large or small bodied and have trouble getting a comfortable fit in other carriers. With a Beco Butterfly, there is no need to buy a waist extender or a seperate infant insert.
